Boards of Supervisors are elected to both guide their communities and to fulfill the specific duties of their role as defined by the Code of Virginia. In order to accomplish both tasks, it is imperative that each supervisor possess a sound understanding of all that elected office entails. Toward that end, VACo’s Managing While Leading course will review the powers, duties, and responsibilities of the county supervisor, guiding the student toward the skills they will need to excel in good governance. Students will learn to avoid poor performance by blending leadership with strategic thinking, and will leave the course with a solid basis of knowledge regarding best practices of leadership, management, and governance.
