On May 20 VACo and Virginia Energy (Viriginia Department of Energy) hosted “Unlocking Energy Savings and Demand Response Opportunities for Local Governments”. A recording of this hybrid online, and in person event, is now available on YouTube.
The workshop included an introduction and local government case studies on state-run Energy Savings Performance Contracting and Demand Response programs. Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) is a budget neutral approach that implements facility improvements using guaranteed energy and water savings to cover financing costs, eliminating the need for capital budget allocations. Demand Response (DR) turns your ability to temporarily reduce electricity usage into revenue. Through this program local governments are paid to reduce energy use during peak demand periods, thereby reducing constraints on the electric grid to provide customer power.
Speaker presentations include the following:
- Overview of ESPC and DR programs – Virginia Energy
- Opportunities for Demand Response in Virginia – Voltus
- ESPC Case Study – Fairfax County Park Authority
- ESPC Case Study – Loudoun County Public Schools
