To highlight the important service transit agencies across the Commonwealth continue to provide throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is celebrating Transit Appreciation Month this October. Each week, DRPT will highlight the unique features of Virginia’s essential transit agencies and help connect riders with mobility service in the Commonwealth.

“During these unprecedented times, transit systems have remained dedicated to providing an essential service, getting people where they need to go in communities across the Commonwealth,” said Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine. “I want to thank our transit partners for maintaining this lifeline – a critical connection for all Virginians.”

Transit Appreciation Activities in October are as follows:

  • October 19-23: Your Transit Agency features different transit agencies and the services they provide.
  • October 26-30: Transporting Our Essential Workers highlights public transit’s essential role in the community and how transit keeps the Commonwealth moving.

“We thank our transit partners across Virginia for their commitment to mobility,” said Jennifer Mitchell, Director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. “DRPT dedicates the month of October to the transit agencies that work diligently day in and day out to transport people to doctor’s appointments, critical supplies, employment opportunities, and beyond. Thank you!”

Transit Appreciation Month promotes Virginia’s public transit agencies and showcases transit as a safe transportation option for essential travel. Local public transit agencies across Virginia are participating in this initiative.
