The program offered at this year’s annual conference will be informative and interesting.
Keynote speakers at the general sessions include Political Scientist Stephen Farnsworth, who will provide an analysis of the 2013 election results. Dr. Joey Faucette returns to talk about “Blazing New Trails.” NACo’s President Linda Langston will update our members about the services provided by our national association. At the Tuesday morning general session, NACo Executive Director Matt Chase will share his perspective on national issues important to county officials. Also during the Tuesday morning session, the Local Government Attorneys Association will perform an entertaining dramatization that will focus on Virginia’s Conflict of Interest Act.
Conference breakout sessions will address such topics as Medicaid expansion, Emergency Management, the unfunded teacher liability challenge, stormwater management, use of a county’s agricultural base for economic development and transportation. Several sessions will feature members of the general assembly discussing key legislative issues.
One of the most important items on the agenda for VACo’s Annual Conference will be the development of VACo’s legislative action plan for 2014.
VACo’s steering committees are scheduled to hold their final round of meetings on Sunday, November 10.
VACo’s full membership will then vote on the legislative program during the business meeting on the final day of the conference.
