VACo Annual Conference Update

It’s almost here! VACo’s 81st Annual Conference starts this weekend, and we hope you’re ready!

In our planning, VACo has implemented several features to make the conference a little “greener.” You will notice that your conference tote bag is a little bit lighter this year. We are placing a lot of information on the mobile app, which you can download on your Apple or Android device. Instructions for downloading the app are available here or on the corkboard at the registration desk (not in your bag). We also reduced the size of some handouts to half sheets.

As you plan your trip to The Omni Homestead, think of ways that you can be a little “greener.” The Omni Homestead has a linen re-use program. Consider not asking for linen service during your stay. If you get a newspaper, once you’re done with it, consider giving it to someone or recycling it.

VACo wants to thank Bath County for hosting the annual conference, and this year we decided to use the Mulligan sales received during the golf tournament to donate to a local, Bath County organization. This year’s recipient will be Bath Animal Welfare Foundation, which provides spaying and neutering and pet adoption services. They also have a consignment shop that helps raise funds for their mission. For more information, check out their website www.bawf.org. If you are participating in Saturday’s golf tournament, consider buying a couple Mulligans, which are on sale one for $2 or three for $5. Just face it, you’re no Jordan Spieth and you’ll be helping out the local community.

VACo Annual Conference Tip

What does your county care about? The 81st VACo Annual Conference theme is “Virginia Counties Care.” There will be a Virginia map at the attendee registration desk where folks are asked to write on a sticky note what their county cares about and place it on their county. Responses will be posted in a conference wrap up article in County Connections and will be used to direct educational efforts throughout 2016. So think about it and be ready to participate next weekend!
