VACo Welcomes Khaki LaRiviere

The Virginia Association of Counties is pleased to announce that Kathleen L. “Khaki” LaRiviere will join the team on January 3 as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. LaRiviere comes to VACo after serving as Policy Advisor to Governor Terry McAuliffe.

“Khaki brings state experience in policy development, which will further bolster our Legislative Team’s effectiveness,” VACo Executive Director Dean Lynch said. “With the General Assembly around the corner, Khaki gives our members another talented advocate fighting for their interests. I’m excited to welcome Khaki to VACo.”

In her role as Policy Advisor, LaRiviere provided timely and detailed analysis for Governor McAuliffe. Her policy areas included Commerce & Trade, Natural Resources, and Technology. Additionally, LaRiviere represented the Governor’s Office as the local government liaison and policy liaison for General Assembly members. Working with the Offices of Policy and Counsel, LaRiviere provided recommendations on legislation and regulations across all Secretariats.

“Together with the highly-skilled VACo team and Virginia’s localities – I’m ready to advocate for our VACo members,” LaRiviere said. “Having worked in four sessions during my service to the General Assembly for two senators and two Governors – I understand the value of good policy and legislative advocacy.”

LaRiviere graduated from The College of William and Mary with a bachelor’s degree in public policy and a minor in economics. She earned her master’s degree from Virginia Tech in public administration and public affairs.
