CSA Governance Workgroup Issues Final Report

On December 7, the workgroup charged to make recommendations about the governance responsibilities of the State Executive Council (SEC) in respect to the Children’s Services Act (CSA) issued it’s final report to the General Assembly. The report can be found here.

As directed by the General Assembly, the workgroup met several times in 2015 to review and make recommendations concerning certain aspects of the manner in which the SEC carries out its governance responsibilities with regard to CSA. (For the specific language concerning the work group’s activity, please see Chapter 665, Item 278.E. of the Appropriation Act. This language can be found at http://lis.virginia.gov/151/bud/hb1400chap.pdf on page 255 of the document.)

Many of the recommendations in the report are already being acted upon, including legislation to amend the membership of the SEC and the State and Local Advisory Team (SLAT) and a draft process for ensuring transparent and thoughtful public participation in the policy making activities of the SEC.

VACo supports the recommendations reflected in the report and appreciates the service of supervisors Charlotte Moore (Roanoke), Brenda Ebron-Bonner (Dinwiddie) and Steve Walker (Culpeper) on the workgroup.
