General Assembly Will Consider Governor’s Amendments, Vetoes April 22

Governor Spanberger proposed amendments to 176 bills ahead of her April 13 deadline (in addition to four bills already amended prior to the conclusion of the regular session), and vetoed eight bills.  The legislature will meet on April 22 to act on the Governor’s amendments and vetoes.

During this reconvened session, members will have an opportunity to accept or reject the Governor’s revisions to bills (based on a majority vote of members present in each chamber) and to override the Governor’s vetoes (which requires a supermajority vote of two-thirds of members present in each chamber).  If the legislature rejects the Governor’s amendments to a bill, in whole or in part, the bill is returned to the Governor, who then has 30 days to sign the bill, veto the bill, or allow the bill to become law without her signature.
