In the most recent Energy Landscape of Virginia series podcast interview, VACo learned from the Virginia Energy Purchasing Governmental Association (VEPGA) that counties, cities, towns, school boards, and local and regional government authorities served by Dominion Energy can expect an overall increase of up to 30 percent in electric rates beginning July 1st of this year. VEPGA is a joint powers association created in 2002 pursuant to authority provided in the Virginia Code and negotiates multi-year electricity contracts with Dominion Energy on behalf of its members. With the current contract set to expire June 30, 2026, VEPGA is negotiating electric power rates and terms and conditions of service for a new multi-year contract.
Counties interested in finding out more about VEPGA, including an update on current contract negotiations, are encouraged to attend the VEPGA annual conference (free for VEPGA members) on April 15 in Richmond. For more information (including registration and agenda) go to VEPGA 2026 Annual Member Meeting | VEPGA or contact VEPGA Secretary and Treasurer Sandra Harrington at sharrington@vml.org.
