VACo names Adkins president for 2010-2011

Nov. 10, 2010

The membership of the Virginia Association of Counties elected Wise County Supervisor Robert R. Adkins as 2010-2011 President during VACo’s 76th Annual Conference in Bath County. Adkins and other newly elected officers started their terms at the association’s Annual Business Meeting on Nov. 9.

Adkins replaces Isle of Wight County Supervisor Phillip A. Bradshaw and becomes the first-ever president from Wise County and the third-ever from Southwest Virginia.

“I’m very proud to stand before you as the (2010-2011) VACo President,” Adkins said during his acceptance speech.

VACo recognizes winners of the Go Green program

The Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 Go Green Awards recognizing local governments that have implemented practical actions that reduce carbon emissions and make energy use more efficient.

Virginia Counties Recognized for Model Programs

Aug. 3, 2010

The Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 Achievement Awards recognizing model local government programs. 

VACo received 60 entries for the statewide contest. Lane Ramsey, former Chesterfield County administrator; Tedd Povar, associate director of the Virginia Institute of Government; and Marilyn Blake, former Hanover County assistant administrator, served as judges for this year’s statewide awards program.
