There are less than two weeks until the VACo Annual Conference Registration Forms will be sent via email and available on our website. This will be our 81st conference and is themed “Virginia Counties Care.” Attendees will have an opportunity to share issues they care about at registration. These issues will be compiled and displayed for all to see. Share what your county cares about now on Twitter by tagging us at #VACoConf. By sharing, you may find that another county has a similar interest or issue that you can work on together.
Speaking of working together, 2014 golf tournament attendees asked that the money collected from the Mulligans sold be donated to a local, Bath County organization. This year, all proceeds will be given to Bath Animal Welfare Foundation, a nonprofit that relies on donations and sales from their thrift store to care for abandoned animals. They also provide foster care and a spay and neuter program. Thank you, 2014 participants, for the suggestion! Consider bringing out your fellow county partners to the 2015 VACo Annual Golf Tournament as a team-building event.
The VACo team met on Monday, July 27 to discuss the conference logistics and educational topics. We hope to have agenda items nailed down in the coming weeks. Keep checking County Connections for agenda topics and logistical information.
We announced in the last Conference Corner tip that Wi-Fi will be available throughout the conference space. To help cover the cost, we have developed a sponsorship level. In addition to the many advertising opportunities that come with your sponsorship, the Wi-Fi password will be the sponsoring company’s name. Attendees will be prompted to enter the password each time they log in throughout the course of the conference.

Are several of your Board members and county staff planning to attend the conference? If so, register the group for a team building event, such as the VACo Golf Tournament on Saturday. The cost is $75 per participant. If you’re staying at The Omni Homestead, enjoy after-dinner games in Downtime, or a movie in Homestead Theater, a Historic Tour of the hotel, or Afternoon Tea in the Great Hall, all of which are included in your resort fee and provide great opportunities to connect with your county companions.
