November 21, 2017

Ten winners were announced on November 15 in a ceremony in Charlotte, NC, during the National League of Cities’ annual City Summit at the Mint Museum.

One of the Commonwealth’s very own, Wise County, was recognized as the best in the category of State and Local Leadership! Congratulations, Jack Kennedy, in your efforts in having your county being recognized as using innovation to promote economic development growth!

Also, congratulations, Nelson Moe, Judy Marchand-Hampton and Tony Wood on the Innovation Center of Excellence being recognized as a Top 10 Finalist in the category of Data and IT Innovators and one of the best in promoting innovative strategies to increase government efficiency or to reduce government costs for needed services!

It’s one thing to dream up a great idea. It’s another thing to figure out how to implement it successfully.

The road from conceiving a great idea to successfully implementing it requires ingenuity and innovation from many teams and individuals. In the second annual Navigator Awards, Route Fifty honors these individuals and teams who either work in or with state, county and municipal governments in the United States. Individuals and teams have demonstrated their ability to implement a great idea that improves public sector services and the communities they serve. Nominations, reviewed by the Route Fifty editorial staff, were judged on three measurements: innovation, implementation and outcomes.
